Indian Railways & Its Departments

For each and every Railway Zones in India, there is head called General Manager (GM). Each of the Railway divisions is headed by a Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), who can be appointed from any services of IRTS, IRAS, IES, IRPS etc. There are Divisional officers who heads various departments viz. engineering, mechanical, electrical, signal and telecommunication, accounts, personnel, operating, commercial, safety, medical, security branches.

Railway Staff are classified into gazetted (Group ‘A’ and ‘B’) and non-gazetted (Group ‘C’ and ‘D’) employees. The Group ‘A’gazetted employees Jobs is carried out by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) through All-India Level Competitive Exams conducted by it. The Group ‘B’ Jobs for various posts like Section Officers, Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendent posts is conducted by Railway Jobs Board. The Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ employees are recruited through 21 Railway Jobs Boards.
